Answer
Potential cross-joining between NV-EC1701's.

When in join mode a key is generated by the master 1701 (the unit that has a psu applied) which is shared with other 1701's that are in join mode. If there are other 1701's in join mode that are in close proximity to other 1701s that are also in join mode, then there is the possibility of the keys being shared across both pairs. Another way that 1701s can be cross-joined is when they are paired to a different group. 1701s will remember the group they have been paired with until they have been factory reset. If they do not get reset before being paired to another group, they could remember the previous group they belonged to.

In order to get the 1701s out of this cross join, all of the affected 1701s will need to be factory reset. Below is the 1701 reset process.
  • Apply power to the 1701 that is going to be reset.
  • Press the join button located behind the RJ45 LED for 13-15 seconds with a straightened out paperclip.
  • Release the join button when all 3 LEDs flash once.
  • There should be only the blue power LED. If the BNC LED is still light, then perform factory reset again.
You may also utilise the 1701 manager tool if the units have already been deployed, however some older adapter firmware revisions are not detected by the manager tool.
